PaaS has certainly been a hot topic in cloud this year, and next year is shaping up to be no different. Gartner recently predicted that PaaS spending will rise to $1.5 billion in 2013, and will reach $2.9 billion by 2016.
For our first ever IBM Cloud-hosted Google+ hangout this Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 3-3:30 pm. ET, we’ll chat about PaaS, why it’s important, and how clients are using it to gain a competitive advantage.

Moderator: Charlotte Dunlap, Senior Analyst for Application Platforms at Current Analysis
At Current Analysis, Charlotte brings over 18 years of industry experience to her coverage of the technologies that provide the infrastructure necessary to build and run enterprise applications and services. She analyzes the software, services and professional services necessary to integrate disparate systems, create cross-business and cross-technology communications, deliver rich, collaborative applications, and build software that is transparent, optimized and reusable.
Prior to joining Current Analysis, Charlotte held editorial positions at industry publications including Computer Reseller News and news service Edittech International, and has written for Forbes.com, InformationWeek, Dark Reading, and CNET, among others. She has consulted for leading technology companies including Cisco, Symantec, Trend Micro, Google, and RSA.
John Espey, General Manager and VP of Services at CLD Partners
John leads CLD’s application development practice, heading up its day-to-day projects, programs, and partnerships. He has spent his career as a hands-on executive with a breadth of skills spanning software development and architecture, project and program management, financial management, and strategic marketing and planning. John has deep industry experience in retail, energy, finance, telecom, and healthcare/life sciences.
Prior to joining CLD, John was an angel investor in and later COO of Nexgrid, a highly disruptive smart grid company built on 100% open standards. Prior to Nexgrid, John spent 7 years with Amentra, an IT consulting shop. He joined as an early employee while Amentra was a small, regional niche player, and by the time he left he was the COO and Amentra was acquired by Red Hat with over 200 employees.
Greg Sherman, Global Offering Manager for IBM SmartCloud Application Services
Greg has a wide variety of experience leading strategy and product development within and outside of IBM. Greg has held leadership positions in software development, systems architecture, and product management.
Denis Ducharme, Release Manager for IBM SmartCloud Application Services
Denis has been leading software development in project, application, storage, virtualization & network management for the last 15+ years. This mix of expertise led him to the Cloud, where he currently leads the IBM SmartCloud Application Services Software Engineering team. He holds a BSEE from Polytechnique Montréal, a Graduate Diploma in Engineering Management from Sherbrooke University, and the PMP® certification.
