Five examples of B2B integration using IBM SmartCloud


IBM has a number of business-to-business (B2B) cloud services, ranging from on-demand to fully managed solutions, which are delivered using the software as a service (SaaS) model. Here are a few examples of these SaaS services:

Here are a few examples of how customers are using IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services, today:

  1. A merchandise provider in the United States uses IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services Basic and IBM Sterling B2B Collaboration Network to automate the transformation of business documents into a number of required data format/protocol and exchanges them securely to/from an number of trading partners independently of their location. With the increased visibility of documents being exchanged, the merchandise providers are able to better manage the associated B2B processes and support their trading partners.
  2. A wholesaler of home improvement products in the United Kingdom is using IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services Plus to build a common B2B platform for electronic data interchange (EDI) and near real time processing. They started by automating the processing of outbound orders and forecasts as well as inbound order acknowledgments and invoices to and from 30 suppliers.
  3. For a flooring company in the United States, IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services Plus serves as the central B2B transmission solution for all data in any format. This gives them visibility in all document exchanges so they can better manage their B2B processes. In addition, they use IBM Sterling Connect:Direct as the communication protocol that facilitates secure and high-volume exchanges of data between their location and the IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services Plus solution.
  4. An international grocery retailer in France uses IBM Sterling B2B Collaboration Network, IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services Plus and IBM Sterling Community Manager to integrate a highly distributed trading partner network of more than 3,500 suppliers and automate its order-to-cash process associated with the daily order as well as the  shipment and delivery of goods and foods to stores. Automating business transactions helped the retailer sign on suppliers faster and deliver fresh products daily to its stores. The data tracking tool enabled the retailer to identify errors early and minimize business disruptions.
  5. A global consumer-products company based in the United States uses IBM Sterling B2B Integration Services Plus to automate their buy-sell-ship-pay process that involves a range of documents and business processes, including not just the buyer or seller of goods and services but also banks and third party logistics companies. The company also uses this service to gain greater visibility in data and processes shared with external entities. To connect to a collaborative logistics network of carriers, shippers and customers, as well as gain tools to automate its entire transportation management process, IBM Sterling Transportation Management System is used.
