IBM Pulse 2014 kicks off Feb. 23 in Las Vegas, and it’s already created plenty of buzz in the IT industry as its focus has shifted from a Tivoli show to “The Premier Cloud Conference.” The theme for this year’s show is “Create Bold Opportunities. Realize Bold Outcomes. Achieve Bold Dreams.”
A major part of attendees’ ability achieve those goals is the presence of the SoftLayer sales and executive teams, or “Slayers” as they like to be called.
One of the areas that SoftLayer will address is the ability to compare cloud computing models (virtual, bare metal, etc.) for performance and workload suitability. It is important for organizations to be able to examine the key differences between cloud computing models and to look at the performance and stability characteristics of each.

For example, exploring how NoSQL database performance varies in each of the models can explain when one model might be more advantageous than another. SoftLayer experts will offer valuable insight into how to drive results by making the best infrastructure choice for a variety of application use cases and how to get the most out of cloud technologies.
Marc Jones, SoftLayer VP of product innovation, will present this topic. Mr. Jones is responsible for identifying, facilitating, and evangelizing new product and service development—including R&D, software development, and system development. As an accomplished technology executive, he previously served as director of software product development with Rackspace Cloud (formerly Mosso), the cloud division of Rackspace. He was a key member of the senior leadership team responsible for developing and managing the company’s cloud computing product strategy and roadmap, architecture and engineering, business analysis and requirements, along with software product development.
