Type: IBM University Relations (UR) initiative
IBM India recently organized a cloud computing workshop at one of India’s premier technical institutes, Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Kharagpur, at the annual technology festival, Kshitij 2012. This is just one of the many industry-academy initiatives that IBM participates in under its University Relations umbrella. IBM invests considerably in these programs in several countries, by way of faculty awards, training programs, curriculum development, and setting up centers of advanced studies.
The workshop at Kshitij 2012 saw an overwhelming response from the student community with more than 600 enthusiastic participants in the three-hour event. The program provided a platform on which experts from IBM shared their experiences— introducing various aspects, architecture, and view points of cloud computing.
The workshop was divided into multiple sessions and included emerging trends in cloud computing, the new and evolving job roles in the cloud space, cloud infrastructure and services offerings, and open source stack for cloud; it also introduced the students to IBM Cloud on social media: blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube. The workshop included demonstrations and videos, and wrapped up with a quiz session in which mementos were given away.
The workshop generated lot of interest in cloud among the student community; post session, the IBM team handled several queries regarding the possibility of conducting more such workshops in other colleges, and in remote-mentoring. To continue the discussion and learning further, the IBM team created a community page on developerWorks where the details of the workshop and all the presentation material are available.
