One of the messages behind cloud computing is pay-per-use: The adoption of a virtualized, standardized, self service and automated environment should include the possibility to be charged only for the used resources. IBM SmartCloud Provisioning offers the messages of low complexity, low administration and ease of use.

A usual adoption pattern for cloud computing is desktops. It’s really straightforward because, in general, each company has standardized desktops: only some specific version of the operating system is supported; only specific desktop flavors (styles) are available; only some applications are allowed; and typically everything is managed by the IT team.

I’m a big fan of standardization. I’m a big fan of using non-persistent images too. They just make my life so much easier. The only issue I see with them, anyway, is the need to provide to the user several configuration and customization possibilities.
